Macchialupi started their wine making in 2001 at the slopes of "Sabato Valley" at S. Pietro IRP, Chianche (Avellino), having dry winters and fresh climate with strong winds moving around all summer. The vines is growing at around 450 meters above the sea level.

Tasting temperature 17,5 Celsius degrees.

Macchialupi has been ageing their Taurasi 12 months in french oak barrique, then at least 24 months on the bottle.

For the eyes Macchialupis Taurasi limpid and granate red, quite consistent, fairly quick tears and legs.

In the nose I found these flavours in the order I have written them: oak, strawberry, coffee, cherry, red- and black currant, roses, viola, graphite, oil, and at the end some meat. The first flavours came quite intense, then I had to look after the others a bit. Finding so much flavours (floral, fruity, grassy, mineral) in this wine I would say it's a complex wine with a good to great structure. Regarding the olfactory quality I would have it Fine, with an elegant bouquet, at times frank.

Drinking this wine I found it dry, warm, soft and quite tannic-tannic, intense as it really "grabbed" my tongue and made me percieve well-characterized tastes like almonds, caremelle-dark fruit, some anis-mint, liqourice, black peppar, liqourice, viola and vanilla. Macchialupas Taurasi is for me quite persistent but very close to persistent, the duration of the taste-olfactory sensations were close to 7 seconds. A mature wine which will stay on it's peak for 5-7 years.

I tried this wine with salami and focaccia (a kind of pizza bread), which worked very well. Yesterday I combined tortellini with prosciutto. Otherwise this wine made superbly for big steaks, spicy meat from the barbeque or long cooked wild boar stew for exampel.

Macchialupis Taurasi is perfect also with dark chocolate.

A harmonius wine!
