Bruno Rivetti at Cascina Vano in Neive has made a very interesting Barbera d'Alba. The soil is a calcareous clay, in the sub zones of Canova and Rivetti. I tasted the wine at 17 Celsius degrees.

For the eyes it's a beautiful wine, quite limpid, with some suspended particles, which not compromise its quality. The shade is a intense ruby red with some purplish reflections towards the glass. For some reason I could find glimts of orange red shades here and there (could come from the oak?). This Barbera is consistent where it flows to the bottom slowly and quite heavily. The tears are quite slow and very regular.

In the nose it is quite intense impressions of spicy (licorice, grilled meat), minerals (oil, graphite), smoke, roasted nuts, fruit (blackberry fruit like plum, dried fruit like figs). The wine is on it's way from quite complex to complex. It has a sufficient range of odorous nuances, which I got after several inhalations. It's more than quite fine, close to fine, because the bouquet is elegant, with a medium intensity and variety of nuances.

Having a zip or two you will feel a dry, intense and persistent wine, having a lot of oak, licorice and aniseed.

Conclusion: A harmonious wine, soft with a great body and lot's of warmth. The tannins are only pleasant, those you could find. I found dark flowers (violet and roses), fruits (red fruits like strawberry and raspberry, spicy (black pepper, licorice) and minerals ("squeezed stones"). It is a ready wine towards mature, after another two or three years in the cellar this could be something really great.

To combine this flavorsome wine with a piece of Parmesan cheese, slices of the Florentine beef 'Bistecca Fiorentina', or even just a simple dish as pasta with olive oil, would be great.
