In the nose it's a rich and very structured bouquet of flavours, grass and herbs, also a mix between different red flowers and red and black berries. At the end came some scents of liqourice, but very soft. Dried tropical fruits was present at the second tasting.
Drinking this wine gave some impressions of a wine a little bit "hold back", like something was holding back it's full potential. The usual minerals and salt was there, combined with some hints of peaches. At the end it brought an confusing after taste of wet wood. The classic Sangiovese tannins were there, but not as fresh and tickeling as it could be. The persistence is good and long, but the complexity and structure isn't there enough to give it three @@@.
A part of the ageing of the wine has been made in french oak barrels of 5 hl for 8-10 months. Maybe it's time to change some of these, but I will also try another bottle of this wine. The imbottlement was made in June 2009.
A first course like pasta with wild boar sauce should be good for this wine. Some roast meet could be just fine. I can also think of some thrush with cooked potatoes.
