Renzo Marinai in Panzano has a wonderfully situated vineyard on the ridge between Panzano and Mercatale Val di Pesa. Mr Marinai makes about 35 hl (3500 liters) of wine from one hectare. He has fermented the wine for 20 days, which is a little bit more than usual. The ageing has been done 12 months in 225 liters barrique of oak. At least 6 months of refinement in the bottles before selling.

This Chianti Classico Riserva is granite red, with tendencies of orange as a very long aged wine. It has a limpid visibility, and while stirring around the wine in my glass I could notice a really good viscosity.

In the nose it's relative intense, with red and black fruits, humid soil and leafs, with glimts of tobacco in the end.

Having a sip or two shows this Riserva has a balanced level of tannins and dryness, bringing along some impressions of raw meet, balsamic winegar and almonds. The oak has brought some flavour of vanilla to the wine. It's persistent and structured Chianti, with a well developed body. A mature Chianti Classico I would say, which can remain in this shape for quite many years to come.

On the table I would recommend this wine to a Florentine Beef, lamb, veal meet coming from the grill, or taken from the oven. A sliced and fried trout coming from the pan is surprisingly good with this wine. To have some dark chocolate as a dessert with this tasteful Chianti Classico Riserva would be great.

Recommended serving temperature is 18-20 degrees.
