These Nebbiolo grapes on a altitude of 330 m above sea level, on hills with direction south-southwest for the sun exposure. The terrain consists of 50% sand, 35% silt and 15% clay. Using Guyot technique. They have about 4500 plants per hectar. Medium age of a plant is 30 years. Taking out about 5600 liters of wine per hectar. A bunch of grapes weighs about 1.8 kg more or less. The grapes are normally harvested in middle of October.
The fermentation with skin contact during maceration takes about 10-12 days. The ageing lasts about 10 months before bottling, then another 6 months of rest in the cellar before start of selling.
Looking at the glass you will find a limpid transparent garnet red wine with a lot of orange shades.
In the nose it's quite intense, with liqorice, tobacco, dark fruits like cherry and plum. Minerals like graphit. The first inhalations gave me the impressions of beer we drink for Christmas in Sweden, a complex odeur of malt, coffee and chocolate, added with a scent of humid wood. Strange, because this wine shouldn't have been aged on wood barrels of any kind. Together with this "Christmas beer" came also some vague influences of yeast, but these impressions disappeared after 15-20 min's of opening. This wine needs to be decantered before serving. A complex wine I must say.
Having a zip of this Langhe Nebbiolo tells me it's intense, dry, tannic, fresh, tasty, quite soft, quite balanced, and the taste impressions remains for such a long time I would call it a persistent wine. The flavours are red and dark fruit (strawberry, plum, cherry), some malt and licorice. Compared to it's sibbling of 2008 this vintage of 2007 has more impressions of alcohol, even though the measured degree is the same, 14%. The structure is good, with a full body, including some sediments initially during tasting.
This Nebbiolo from Langhe is between quite fine and fine, it has good taste-olfactory qualities, a fair balance and pleasant final taste. It has regular tears and legs of medium size, a quite consistent wine, close to be consistent.
Regarding matureness I would say its between ready and mature, this wine has a great potential to become something really complex, fine and balanced. Almost there, but still some years need to pass, to really reach the peak. A quite harmonius wine.
I would recommend it in general for red meat, even from the grill. Old mature cheeses like seasoned pecorino (sheep cheese) and parmesan cheese. Dark chocolate!
Recommended serving temperature 16-18 degrees.
