This wine is pale straw yellow with hints of gold in the glass.
At first it's a bit tightly wound but as it warms up and areates it opens up beautifully.
On the nose the aroma is white flowers, almonds, pear notes. Soft white fruit.
On the palate it's juicy, peaches, crisp, some brininess and a nice acidity. The wine is so balance that you don't feel the effects of the alcohol in the mouth. There is a nice residual finish.
I was stunned by what a good value this wine was. For $10 bucks you get a lot of bang. The winemaker whom I tasted this wine with told me that the soil where these pinot grigio grapes are grown is chalky and by the sea. Hence the salinity, minerality and almost a faint granite like edge to it All big, bright & bracing qualities. This is a big wine and it stays with you. We find so many little gems here in Italy. They really do have so many beautiful things to share. I would definately drink this with seafood and fish entreès. I think that this wine would stand up to rich, creamy pasta sauces as well.
Not your every day light weight Pinot Grigio. This wine was sophisticated, big and done with care. This winery is a coop there are over 2000 members and over 8000 hectares of vinyards. The vinyards are from sea level all the way to 700 meters and the area from which the pinot grigio grapes are grown and harvested are as I said before sea level and quite chalky and hence this complex layered wine, from a coop at an amazing price point. An all around winner.
