From Crociani I found this little brother of the Noble Wine - Rosso di Montepulciano. Now it is Susanna Crociani who are continuing the work of winemaking on this family-owned vineyard in Montepulciano. Crociani has about 10 ha of land.
Crociani uses a rather long fermentation (18-22 days), and puts them 7-8 months in big oak barrels for aging. They have around 20 000 bottles made of this Rosso di Montepulciano.
It's quite intense in the nose, and relative complex, with aromas like mature red and dark fruit, spiced with some mint. On the palette it's try, persistent, warm, fresh, medium rounded, has a good portion of salt and minerals, has it's genuine share of young spicy tannins. Above all the red fruit I found, there was also an interesting aftertaste of mature dry figs, very likeable.
I had it for red and white meat, and drinking it with slices of parmesan cheese was hilariously good! And having it with pasta and some "sugo di carne" (meat sauce) made of veal or wild boar, is always a big treat with a wine like this. Have it served at around 18° C.
