The colour of this 2007 Riserva is shiny deep ruby red, with medium limpidity and relative high viscosity. The nose is complex and relative intense, with flavours of black berry, blueberry, raspberry, cherry, tobacco, mint and discrete hints of sweet liquorice at the end. On the palette it's intense, persistent, dry, with beautiful strong tannins, high acidity, relative smooth, full bodied, good portion of salt and minerals. I found a many beautiful flavours, such as raspberry, cherry, anise, mint, discrete lime, black pepper, dark chocolate, raisins and balsamic vinegar.
This Riserva 2007 is ready to enjoy now, and a few years more on the bottle will give you an even more rich and refined experience of flavours.
The Salsiccia goes perfect with this Riserva from Monterinaldi, so do also pasta penne with sauce made by hare meat. Try even pasta with fennel, fried in the pan with balsamic vinegar, garlic and flakes of parmesan during serving, enjoy!
(Just remember to open the bottle one hour or two before serving). The Riserva has had a gentle 18 months in wood, before being bottled.
