This winery Meriggio alle Falcole run by Loretta Gambineri you will find on the high hills west of Greve in Chianti. The elevation on the winery is about 450 m above sea level, with gorgeous views around! They have only 2 hectars of vines, and they work under the motto "less is more". Both the winery and their Chianti Classico is partly namned after the couple of falcons who are nesting in the area, and are seen as the protectors of the estate.
Meriggio alle Falcole takes good care and time with their wines, two years in oak barrels and one year in bottle helps to give this Chianti Classico a distinct full body. It's quite intense and persistent on the palette, with loads of elegant tannins and with a certain bite of black peppar and anise at the end that I liked.
Bruno di Falcole is an excellent companion for grilled meat, a stew of game or fish like salmon. Some Parmesan cheese is a good way to end the meal with this wine.
Lifting the bottle made me think that this must one of the heaviest bottles for a Chianti Classico that I have been holding in my hand, during my 15 years in Tuscany.
