The winery Carpenè Malvolti in Conegliano has a long history of making Prosecco. Being founded in 1868 by Antonio Carpenè and Angelo Malvolti makes it almost as old as this country (only 7 years apart, Italy founded in 1861). Now the 4th and 5th generation is running Carpenè Malvolti.

Coming to the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene for the first time is breathtaking! Seeing all the vines growing up and down the hills is amazing, and trying to find some good photos at a sunrise or a sunset is a very pleasant job!

This Prosecco is fresh with good acidity, quite flavourful, with good portions of citrus, herbs, almond and mint. I found some white flowers in the nose as well. Persistent perlage. Pale straw yellow colour.

Enjoy it as an aperitivo before dinner, or drink it with some light dishes, one of my favourites is pasta with asparagus, garlic and olive oil. Gratinate with some cheese like Parmesan (Parmegiano-Reggiano) or even Grana Padana, which is less salty.

The vines Carpenè Malvolti are using for this Prosecco is growing on an altitude of 150-250 m above sea level. The Charmat (Martinotti) method has been used.

To summarize: A very elegant Prosecco that you should try with pasta and broccoli, or with a steamy chicken soup! For the big parties you could always order their 12 litres bottle, that should keep your guests busy for a while.

To end the meal, try one of theirs Grappa or Brandy, quite flavourful and elegant as well.
