Massolino has their 13 ha of vineyards ("Classic", Margheria, Parafada, Vigna Rionda and Parussi) on an altitude of around 350 m above sea level, with the soil mostly calcareous.
This Barbera d'Albas colour is a mix of ruby red and garnet red, quite little impenetrable. It has an intense and rich nose, with high acidity and dryness. It has been ageing for 18 months in oak barrels.
The wine is excellent with dishes based on pasta (pappardelle with wild boar meat), rice (risotto) and soup (ribollita), and braised red meat like beef. It is also good to starters like prosciutto, mortadella, salami and medium aged cheese.
In 2009 it was ready to be drunk, though maybe not at it's peak, and now in 2020 it could still be good, but probably passed it's peak. Too bad my wine cellar isn't big enough to keep to many of these.
