The people at Agricoltori del Geografico in Gaiole in Chianti has perhaps made this wine in honor of one of Countesses of Radda in Chianti, who knows?

The grapes comes from their properties in Radda and Castellina in Chianti, right from the heart of Chianti, a wine producing region since mid 1300's. Together with Gaiole, Radda and Castellina are the three original towns of Chianti, before the expansion and final division between Florence and Siena.

Regarding the land and soil: sandstone on the more steep slopes, calcareous or clay on the less steep slopes. Limestone, a white rock deposited by calcareous or marly-calcareous sediments, is found typically in the central-southern area of Chianti. Stones and pebbles are to be found everywhere.

For the eyes it's limpid ruby red, consistent.

In the nose "The Contessa" feels a little bit closed, like an old fisher-boathouse. The dark fruits are there, mostly black currant and some violet. Some red flowers like roses, still very discrete, not even quite intense.

During zipping-drinking I felt the usual dryness and tannins from a classic Chianti Classico, quite persistent how long the flavours stayed. The tannins are not to wild, which some of these Chianti Classico´s can be, especially without the added ageing in barrique as the Chianti Classico Riserva have.

I would recommend it to roast beef, not to spicy red meat.

Recommended serving temperature is 18-20 degrees. As often, if you remember to open the bottle one hour or so before serving, you will have a richer and more flavorful wine.
