Parawa Estate Ingalalla Grand Reserve 2007

Parawa Estate Ingalalla Grand Reserve 2007
One of the wines that I will be lucky enough to taste at Vinitaly will be Parawa Estate Ingalalla Grand Reserve. Until now I was referring to it as the mystery wine as my friend Peter Jackson wouldn't tell me what it was, all he'd say was that he was bringing one of the most exclusive and expensive wines made in Australia. The release price is $1200 it will probably retail for around $2500.

Another mystery... this winery their website is under construction and there is literally zero information about them on line. The information I have about the wine are from Winestate and that's it. So a mystery a real mystery.

The winery says that this wine is made in a French style  with Australian character ~
The Parawa Estate Ingalalla is a wine produced from the finest clones from classic grape varieties,. This wine is a classic "Bordeaux Blend" of  Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.  It was aged for four years in new and seasoned French oak from five different coopers. In all, sixteen different clones were used to make this wine, making it one of the most interesting combinations available of this style. It involves our philosophy of producing the maximum expression of varietal fruit character, from premium terroir, with expert winemaking skill.

Parawa comes from the Aboriginal word Para for River and Wa for Where? Ingalalla is named after the waterfall which feeds into the creek that runs by the vineyard. It is a stone's throw from the vineyard, nestled below the picturesque Second Valley pine forest. Parawa is the coldest district in South Australia in summer, within the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula wine region, and as a result will have vintage variations each year, with Antarctic winds and cloud cover producing mean temperatures colder than Burgundy. The Estate vineyard lies in the valley below the Parawa hills and as a result avoids the extremes of temperature whilst enjoying the benefits of a long growing season.

Only  2,400 bottles were  produced. This is the first and only Ingalalla released in six years of winemaking, from 2006 - 2011, reflecting the aim to only produce this wine in exceptional vintages. The next Ingalalla will not be released until 2015.There are only 2,400 bottles produced every 5 years.

The retail price of these wines (if available) will be USD $1250 / Euro 1000 / China RMB 8,000 per bottle. Limited allocation may be made to the US and EU, with the bulk expected to be sold into China and Hong Kong late 2012-13.

On Sunday my friends and I are having dinner and Peter Jackson the International Marketing Manager for Winestate will be bringing one precious bottle of Parawa Estate to the dinner. Stay tuned for my tasting notes!

See you at Vinitaly and please be sure to stop by the Winestate and  Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Melbourne Stand in Pavillion 11 Stand D3.
Peter has some other fabulous wines that he'd love to present and have you taste at the stand.
Cheers! :) Dea.
